Oily skin can be difficult to navigate at first. But with the right skin care products that purify your skin, you can manage oily skin. When you have oily skin, it is best to use products made with safe, organic ingredients.

Annmarie Skin Care products provide high-quality, energized, botanical ingredients to tone down excessive shine and unclog pores, which are common skin concerns for oilier skin types. Made by hand, all our skin care products are rich in antioxidants, herbs and oils that help your skin to flourish.

Balance the skin’s natural oils with Annmarie’s oily skin care products

Our skin care products for oily skin types feature ingredients curated for oily skin. To get the best results, we always recommend using products made with pure, organic and wildcrafted ingredients.

With oily skin types, it’s common to experience oiliness around your forehead, chin and nose (also known as the T-zone). Our pH-balanced Citrus Mint Cleanser harnesses the cleansing properties of lemon balm and rosemary to remove surface impurities and clarify your skin. A few times a week, exfoliate with the Kaolin Micro Exfoliant (or Ayurvedic Facial Scrub if you have sensitive skin, as well) that helps absorb excess oil, draw out impurities and unclog pores for fresh, revitalized skin.

Or try our Purifying Mud Mask, which purifies your pores without drying the skin. (Optional: When our mask starts to feel a little dry, rehydrate it slightly by spritzing the Rosemary Toning Mist).

You can also use our Rosemary Toning Mist—an herb-infused, aloe-based distillate with white willow bark, thyme and neem that calms and cleanses skin. Misting also preps your skin for enhanced absorption of the rest of your products.

Avoid oily skin misconceptions

The biggest oily skin misconception is that you don't need a moisturizer, but failing to moisturize actually triggers your skin to produce more oil. Our Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin includes grapeseed oil, a lightweight oil that absorbs easily into your skin, and leaves your skin light, soft, smooth and moisturized.

To ensure your oily skin care products work best for you, cleanse your skin in the morning, evening and after a sweat session. Oily skin is susceptible to getting clogged pores easily, so using products that combat and further deter recurrence is key.

Oily Skin Care Frequently Ask Questions

What ingredients should oily skin avoid?

When you have oily skin, it’s best to avoid ingredients like alcohol, oleic acid, occlusive emollients, isopropyl myristate, harsh physical scrubs, artificial dyes and fragrances. Alcohols, primarily present in cleansers, are harsh and can damage the skin's protective barrier when used for a long time. Oleic acid, mostly found in facial oils (like coconut, sunflower, hazelnut and camellia), tends to clog pores and sit on the skin, making it look and feel greasy.
Occlusive emollients like paraffin, mineral oil, lanolin acid, petroleum (jelly), beeswax and other waxes can be heavy, greasy and sticky on the skin's surface. Isopropyl myristate can irritate and often clogs pores.
Harsh scrubs can damage the skin barrier and cause dryness and sensitivity while artificial dyes and fragrances often irritate the skin, causing breakouts.

Does oily skin need oil-free products?

Oily skin is due to the lack of hydration in the deeper layers of the skin. This actually causes your glands to produce more sebum which clogs your pores. To manage oily skin, use lightweight oils that penetrate to deeper levels of your skin and hydrate while delivering nutrient-dense ingredients.
We recommend using our Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin formulated to purity, moisturize and balance oily skin types.

Does toner make my skin more oily?

This depends on the ingredients of the toner you use. Chemical and alcohol laden toners may dry out oily skin, which actually causes your skin to produce more oil. While using toners created with organic and wildcrafted ingredients like a hydrosol (a by-product of essential oil production) can help cleanse, refresh and hydrate your skin.
Ingredients like rosemary, white willow bark and neem in our Rosemary Toning Mist cuts through oil, helping to purify, clarify and balance oily skin types.

Can over-exfoliating cause oily skin?

Yes, it can. When you over-exfoliate your skin, you can strip your skin of its natural oils, which results in more oil production and oily skin. Every skin type can be damaged when you over-exfoliate.
Although we recommend exfoliating 2-3 times a week with our natural exfoliants, it’s important to listen to your skin’s needs. Pay attention to the texture of your exfoliant, type of exfoliant (manual, chemical) and how frequently your exfoliate to understand what works best for your skin.
